Blueberries Conquer Global Markets: Export Leaders
27 July 06:12
Blueberries have long since ceased to be merely a seasonal berry. Today, they represent one of the most dynamic segments of the global fruit and vegetable market, where competition centers not only on production volumes but also on capturing consumer attention. In a global market that exceeds 2 million metric tons in exports each year, it is becoming increasingly important for producers to sell not just berries, but a brand, a story, and a lifestyle, writes "Komersant Ukrainian", citing EastFruit.
Peru, Chile, and Mexico remain the world leaders in blueberry exports, but rising production is forcing companies to seek new ways to increase the added value of their products.

Previously, marketing campaigns focused primarily on the berries’ high antioxidant content. Today, the strategy has changed: blueberries are being promoted as an integral part of a modern healthy lifestyle. The main target audience now consists of millennials, health-conscious consumers, and families with children.
That is why manufacturers are actively expanding their range of packaging formats—from small portions for a quick snack to family-size packages weighing 450–500 grams. Blueberries are positioned as a healthy alternative to traditional snacks for the office, school, or after sports training.
At the same time, the development of new varieties is becoming increasingly important. While the price of blueberries used to depend largely on the harvest season, today—amid a rapid increase in global production—companies are shifting toward promoting premium, patented varieties.
Exporters are placing less and less emphasis on the product’s country of origin, instead highlighting its unique characteristics. Three characteristics are of the greatest value to buyers and retail chains: firm, crisp flesh; a harmonious balance of sweetness and a slight tartness; and a long shelf life. It is precisely these advantages that allow producers to maintain premium prices even during periods of maximum market saturation.
Environmental sustainability has become another key element of modern marketing strategy. An increasing number of companies are emphasizing the use of organic certifications, water conservation, carbon footprint reduction, and the use of recyclable packaging.Experts note that in the coming years, the winners in the global market will be companies that can offer consumers a strong brand, a modern communication style, and a compelling story about responsible production.
