Russia did not start the war, but merely responded to the actions of Ukraine, which allegedly launched hostilities with the support of the West. This was stated by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during a meeting with officers of the Russian Navy, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.
The Russian dictator once again attempted to shift the blame for the full-scale invasion onto Ukraine and Western countries.
According to him, Moscow was allegedly forced to respond to “hostilities.”
“We did not start any war; we were responding to the actions of Ukraine, which launched hostilities with the support of the West,” Putin said.
The dictator also claimed that Ukraine will sooner or later lose its western territories, that the left-bank region of Ukraine has always been considered part of Russia, and that today in Ukraine “everyone has turned against each other.”
At the same time, Putin claimed that the western part of Ukraine was supposedly a gift from Joseph Stalin, but that he “gave” these lands not to Ukraine, but “as part of a single state.”
“By the way, I’m sure that sooner or later Ukraine will lose these western territories. And what belonged to Poland, Hungary, and Romania—sooner or later—maybe not tomorrow, not the day after tomorrow, but in a year, two, 10, or 15—will historically fall into place.”
At the same time, he did not explain why Ukraine should lose its western territories.
Furthermore, Putin named the aggressor country—which is killing people in Ukraine and destroying cities—as the sole guarantor of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
“There was only one guarantor of Ukraine’s territorial integrity—and that was Russia. But they deemed it necessary, possible, and beneficial for themselves to declare Russia their enemy and Russians not the titular nation in Ukraine, which is utter nonsense and delusion,” he said.
In addition, as part of a pseudo-historical digression, the Russian leader stated that “historically, Ukraine has always been divided into the Left Bank and the Right Bank—the Left Bank was always considered not merely oriented toward Russia, but part of Russia.”
According to him, Vladimir Lenin allegedly gave the Donbas not to Russia but to Ukraine, and now the aggressor state “has to restore everything to its normal historical course.”
