Drone attack near Putin’s palace: a large-scale fire broke out in Gelendzhik

28 August 16:35

A Ukrainian drone crashed in a forested area near the village of Krynytsia, which is located just 10 km from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s palace on Cape Idokopas near Gelendzhik (Krasnodar Territory, Russia). The falling debris caused a large-scale fire.

This was reported by the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory of Russia on August 28, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the official data of the occupation authorities, at first, three fires broke out in the forest on an area of about 3 thousand square meters, but later the fire spread to 7 thousand square meters. Rescuers, aviation and fire brigades were engaged to extinguish the fire.

Geography of the incident
The village of Krynytsia, where the drone crashed, is located just a few kilometers from the so-called Putin Palace, a giant complex on the Black Sea coast that journalists and investigators call one of the main private residences of the Russian dictator.

Background

  • Back in 2023-2024, Russian media reported that drones regularly attacking the Krasnodar Territory and Sochi had actually changed Putin’s vacation schedule. He stopped visiting Sochi, where he traditionally spent spring and fall.
  • In March 2024, the official residence of the Russian president, Bocharov Stream, in Sochi was dismantled. According to investigators, the reason was security fears after a series of drone strikes on targets in the region.

Context of the drone attacks
Krasnodar Krai and the Black Sea coast are regularly targeted by Ukrainian drones. Attacks on oil depots, military facilities, fuel depots, and energy infrastructure have been recorded in the region. This time, however, the incident occurred right next door to Putin’s private residence.

There have been no official comments from the Kremlin or Putin himself on the fire.
