Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who was sentenced to five years in prison, will serve his sentence in solitary confinement.
This was reported by the TV channel BFMTV with reference to sources, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
As it became known to the channel, since October 21, Sarkozy will be held in the isolation ward of the prison of Santé, which is located in the south of Paris. Today it is the only prison left within the French capital.
The facility has a ward for vulnerable persons, where the former politician would probably be placed because of his age (70) and his popularity, but this will not happen, according to the channel.
on September 25, the Paris Criminal Court found the former head of state guilty of “criminal conspiracy” because of the fact that his inner circle turned to the Syrian leader Muammar Gaddafi in order to illegally finance his presidential campaign in 2007. At the same time, the politician was acquitted on corruption charges. Sarkozy said he would appeal the verdict.
