Ex-deputy on the international wanted list: Germany detains suspect in government bond fraud

Germany has detained a former MP of the VIII convocation of Ukraine who is suspected of stock market manipulation and money laundering. This is a case that has been going on since 2017 and concerns transactions with domestic government bonds.

The detention was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

What is known

on January 3, 2026, law enforcement officers detained a former Ukrainian MP who was on the international wanted list in the Federal Republic of Germany. The detention took place at the request of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine within the framework of criminal proceedings investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation.

The OGP did not name the suspect, but clarified that it is a member of the VIII convocation.

What he is suspected of

According to the investigation, the former MP is an accomplice in stock market manipulation and money laundering.

Investigators claim that in 2017 he participated in fake transactions with domestic government bonds on stock exchanges. As a result of these actions, the suspect allegedly received artificial investment income in the amount of more than UAH 20 million, which he subsequently legalized.

How the case developed

The former MP was served with a notice of suspicion in August 2023. In October 2024, the court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention. After that, the suspect was put on the international wanted list.

In October 2025, the court authorized a special pre-trial investigation. Currently, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials have been opened to the defense.

Upon completion of the extradition procedure from Germany, the indictment is planned to be sent to court for consideration of the case on the merits.
