A former minister of Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Development has been placed under preventive detention in connection with a grain fraud case.
This was reported by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The day before, the former minister, as the organizer of the scheme, along with two co-organizers and perpetrators, were notified of suspicion of committing fraud on an especially large scale (Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The former official’s name has not been disclosed, but several media outlets report that it is Mykola Solskyi, who served as Minister of Agrarian Policy from 2022 to 2024.
The suspects attempted to sell 7,000 tons of non-existent corn by forging warehouse documents. On paper, the seller’s grain elevator was filled with the harvest, but in reality, it was empty.
Today, the organizer of the scheme—the former Minister of Agrarian Development of Ukraine— was ordered to be held in custody, with the option of posting bail in the amount of 63.7 million UAH. The bail amount corresponds to the full amount of damages caused to the victim and confirmed by expert analysis.
Regarding the other two participants in the scheme—the director of the agricultural enterprise and its technical manager—a motion has been filed with the court to impose a similar preventive measure: pretrial detention or bail of 63.7 million UAH for each.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
