Arrest of Tandyr ex-judge who ran down National Guard officer to death extended

The Kyiv Court of Appeal left judge Oleksiy Tandyr in custody. He ran down National Guard officer Vadym Bondarenko to death at a checkpoint in Kyiv region. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, Kommersant Ukrainian reports
“The Kyiv Court of Appeal considered the appeal of the defendant’s defence lawyers against the decision of the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv, which extended the term of the preventive measure in the form of detention,”
– the statement reads.
The court rejected the defence’s request to change the measure of restraint to house arrest and upheld the prosecutor’s arguments, leaving the first instance decision unchanged. Thus, Tandyr will remain in pre-trial detention until 12 April 2024.

As it is known, on the night of 26 May, Oleksiy Tandyr ran down National Guard officer Vadym Bondarenko to death in his Lexus. The deceased National Guard was 23 years old. He is survived by three children.
The judge is accused of violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated, which caused the victim’s death (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In August 2023, the pre-trial investigation against the judge was completed, and the case is pending in court.
