Energy truce: Zelensky confirms agreement with Russia
30 January 10:12
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement on an “energy truce” during the winter cold spell. He welcomed US President Donald Trump’s statement on the possibility of protecting Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities from Russian strikes, Komersant reports .
“President Trump’s important statement about the possibility of protecting Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks during the winter cold spell,” Zelensky wrote on social media. According to him, energy is the basis of life, and Kyiv appreciates the efforts of its partners to protect it.
“The teams discussed this in the Emirates. We expect that the agreements will be implemented. De-escalation steps contribute to real progress towards ending the war,” the Ukrainian leader added. The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized the critical importance of protecting the energy system during cold weather.
Trump’s role
Donald Trump previously stated at a White House meeting that he personally asked Vladimir Putin not to strike Kyiv and other cities, and the Russian president agreed.
“Many people said it was a waste of time to make the call because nothing would come of it, but he did it, and we are very happy,” Trump said.
According to him, this call explains the absence of shelling of the Ukrainian capital over the past week. Information about the cessation of strikes on infrastructure appeared on social media on Thursday morning, but the official parties to the negotiations, which took place over the weekend in Abu Dhabi, remained silent for a long time.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on Thursday on reports of negotiations on an energy truce, Russian media reported.
Military data
Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Viktoria Strakhova reported receiving information about a ban on the Russian Armed Forces firing on targets in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and infrastructure throughout Ukraine starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday. This information was also confirmed by the commander of the Ukrainian special forces unit Kraken, Konstantin Nemichov.
At the same time, observers point to the possible depletion of weapons stocks on the Russian side. When examining the debris of ammunition after the shelling on January 24, fragments of an X-101 missile launched in 2026 were found.
In their opinion, this may indicate that the enemy has exhausted its accumulated reserves and is forced to limit the use of long-range missiles to its current production capacity.
