Erdogan is no longer coming to Kyiv, but Ukraine is “working on it”
5 August 12:56
There is no confirmation that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Ukraine in the coming days. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Nariman Dzhelal to Suspilne, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The diplomat emphasized that there has been no official confirmation of the Turkish leader’s trip.
“At the request of the President of Ukraine, the Ukrainian side is working to make such a visit happen, but as of now, there is no confirmation of the trip,”
– Mr. Dzhelal said.
Where did the rumors come from?
It is noteworthy that the media interpreted Dzhelal’s words as a fait accompli in the future. At the same time, the diplomat himself did not say anything for sure.
“We are now actively working on organizing President Erdogan’s visit to Ukraine. President Zelenskyy personally conveyed the invitation and I repeated it during a meeting with the Turkish president. This visit will require significant efforts, as there are many issues that hinder its implementation,”
– he said the day before.
It was also reported that economic cooperation would be an important issue during Erdogan’s visit to Kyiv. Especially the entry into force of the free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey is expected.
This agreement aims to increase trade between the two countries and contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Opening of the Baykar plant?
Earlier it was reported that the Turkish drone manufacturing company Baykar plans to complete the construction of a plant in Ukraine in August 2025. It is likely that Erdogan will want to attend the opening of the plant.
“We have completed 80% of the construction (of the plant – ed.), and orders for the machines are coming in. The production date will be determined by the course of the war, but the facility will be ready in August 2025,”
– Executive Director Haluk Bayraktar said in an interview with Reuters.
The plant is expected to produce TB2 drones or their TB3 variant with a larger payload.
According to the company’s CEO, Baykar is also working on developing its own engines – currently, the Akinci and Kizilelma are powered by Ukrainian-made engines.
The company has also recently signed an agreement with the Ukrainian company Ivchenko-Progress on a separate joint development of a turbofan engine.
