Fake websites and pensions: a new wave of fraud on Telegram

29 August 05:25

Recently, popular Telegram channels with an audience of millions have posted messages about the alleged change in the rules for calculating pensions starting September 1. To get the details, users are asked to select their year of birth and follow a special link. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Cyber Police.

Manipulations and risks

According to the Cyberpolice and the Pension Fund of Ukraine, such information has nothing to do with official explanations from government agencies. Such messages are a manipulation that uses the sensitive topic of social benefits to force people to go to third-party sites.

Experts warn that some of these resources may pose a threat to the security of users’ personal data.

Where to check information?

Official information on pensions, social payments, subsidies and benefits is published only on the official platforms of the Pension Fund of Ukraine:

  • Website: www.pfu.gov.ua
  • Facebook: facebook.com/pfu.gov.ua
  • Telegram: t.me/PensFund

Cyberpolice and the Pension Fund of Ukraine urge not to trust messages from dubious sources and not to follow suspicious links.

What to do in case of fraud?

If you are a victim of a cybercrime or notice signs of fraud on the Internet, submit an electronic appeal to the cyber police at the following link: ticket.cyberpolice.gov.ua.

Be careful and rely only on information from official sources of government agencies.
