French carmaker Renault and Japanese Nissan are negotiating to resume close cooperation after a series of personnel changes.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing knowledgeable sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“According to sources familiar with the negotiations, former Renault CEO Luca de Meo advocated the sale of the French group’s stake in Nissan after relations between them deteriorated due to the arrest of the former head of the Japanese company Carlos Ghosn in 2018. However, de Meo’s dismissal, according to sources, led to negotiations on the renewal of the alliance,” the publication notes.
In 2023, the alliance underwent a restructuring aimed at reducing Renault’s stake in Nissan from 43% to 10%. Luca de Meo wanted to invest the proceeds from the sale of Nissan shares in the development of Renault. The deal was complicated by the fall in Nissan’s share price and the high premium that the former head of the French automaker asked for their sale.
