Google will receive $1 billion from Apple annually for using its AI

Apple is preparing an agreement with Google to license a custom version of Gemini for the updated Siri with annual payments of about $1 billion. However, the parties do not plan to publicly announce the partnership, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Bloomberg.

This is a special version of Gemini with 1.2 trillion parameters, which is significantly more powerful than Apple’s current cloud models, which have about 150 billion parameters. Google’s model will be used to execute complex Siri commands. At the same time, Gemini will not be integrated into iOS directly or positioned as a separate Google service on Apple devices.

The Gemini model for Siri is planned to be deployed on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure, which allows processing user data without transferring it to the Google ecosystem and maintaining security control.

It is noted that the parameters of the deal are close to being finalized, and the extended version of Siri based on Gemini is targeted for launch in 2026. There are no official statements from Apple and Google, and the format of cooperation is described as using Google as a “hidden” supplier without public co-branded communication.

Gemini is also seen as a temporary measure until Apple’s own larger model is released. In addition, Apple considered alternatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other developers.
