NATO Secretary General and Turkish President discuss security guarantees for Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The key topic was the discussion of security guarantees for Ukraine and the prospects for ending the war waged by Russia. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to an official statement from the Turkish side, Erdogan and Rutte emphasized Turkey’s special role in resolving the conflict and ensuring stability in the Black Sea region.

“President Erdogan and NATO Secretary General Rutte emphasized Turkey’s key role in the peace process in Ukraine and in ensuring security in the Black Sea,” the statement reads.

The parties agreed on Ankara’s more active contribution to the negotiation process and reaffirmed their readiness to work closely with NATO partners.

Special attention was paid to the issue of creating reliable and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.

on August 18, Trump, Zelenskyy and European leaders met in Washington, D.C. The meeting was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

During the talks, the participants planned to discuss the results of Trump’s summit with illegitimate aggressor country President Vladimir Putin, which took place on August 15 in Alaska, and possible ways to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Before the talks began, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was ready to establish a “real truce and a new security architecture” for the sake of peace.
