The head of the Cherkasy police has temporarily stepped down from his duties following the death of four police officers

The head of the National Police Main Directorate in the Cherkasy region, Colonel Oleg Gudima, has temporarily suspended his official duties due to an extraordinary incident that occurred in the Cherkasy district, where a wanted ex-military officer opened targeted fire on law enforcement officers. This is evidenced by Gudima’s official statement, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Oleg Gudima called this his considered decision, dictated solely by the need to ensure objectivity.
“In connection with the tragic events in the Cherkasy region, I have decided to temporarily suspend my official duties for the duration of the investigation. This is my considered decision, dictated solely by the need to ensure objectivity and trust in the results of the investigation,” he said.
Gudima also expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased law enforcement officers, emphasizing the importance of an impartial investigation into all the circumstances of the tragedy.
Murder of police officers in Cherkasy region
On Tuesday, February 3, an extraordinary event took place in the Cherkasy region. Police officers attempted to detain a 59-year-old resident of Korsun, who was wanted for attempted murder, but he opened fire on the law enforcement officers.
According to the head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhovsky, four police officers were killed and another was wounded as a result of the attack.
The attacker, a former military serviceman, was killed on the spot by special forces.
