Global IT outage: a guide for those running Windows

On the morning of 19 July, a number of organisations in Ukraine and around the world faced the problem of launching computers running on the Microsoft Windows operating system and using CrowdStrike Falcon software. Specialists of the State Special Communications Service have prepared instructions for those who use Windows, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
This morning, a large-scale IT failure occurred in the world: Windows computers, mobile operators, the banking system and even airports in many countries, including the United States, stopped working .
Organisations in Ukraine affected by this problem have already fully or partially resumed their work.
Experts of the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine recommend usingCrowdStrike instructions to quickly resolve this issue:
- Boot Windows in Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment
- Navigate to the directory C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
- Find the file named “C-00000291*.sys” and delete it
- Restart your computer or server
“We recommend using the above method while CrowdStrike is working on fixing the problem and will not provide official information. The State Service of Special Communications is ready to provide advisory and practical assistance in solving the problem,”

According to the latest information, Microsoft has already begun to gradually stabilise the services, but full recovery of all systems has not yet taken place.
