PrivatBank’s CEO received a record salary of over UAH 2 million in May

In May 2025, the chairman of the board of state-owned PrivatBank, Mikael Bjorknert, received 2,124,551.24 in basic salary. These data are published in the bank’s reports on the PrivatBank website, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
This is almost twice as much as in May 2024, when the chairman of the board was paid UAH 1.1 million. In just one year, the CEO’s monthly income increased by a million.
PrivatBank notes that in May 2025, the Chairman, Deputy Chairmen of the Board and members of the Board of the Bank were paid part of the basic salary for April 2025 (60% – with full payroll), part of the basic salary for May 2025 (40% – for the period from 01.05.2025 to 20.05.2025) and paid for their vacations.
In addition, in May 2025, Bjorknert also received UAH 633 thousand in in-kind payments – income from insurance contracts.

Mikael Björknerth has over 25 years of experience in the financial sector and in leadership positions. Most recently, he was Head of Banking at Swedbank, where he was responsible for the full range of banking services, from retail and corporate banking to operations and digital transformation.
At Swedbank, Mr. Björknerth successfully implemented strategic planning and digital banking initiatives. He is also an internationally recognized expert in the banking sector and serves as a strategic advisor to the senior management of various global banks.
Prior to joining Swedbank, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors at Bankgirot (Sweden), Head of International Transactions at SEB (Estonia), and a member of the Board of Directors at Nasdaq (Sweden).
At PrivatBank, Mr. Björknerth will focus on developing a customer-centered business model, accelerating digital initiatives and preparing the bank for future challenges, ensuring that the bank remains a reliable partner trusted by more than 18 million customers.
