The country’s main Christmas tree in 2025: when will it be determined who will finance it and what will be the restrictions

On St. Nicholas Day, December 6, 2025, the country’s main Christmas tree will be set up in Kyiv. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration in a telegram, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the KCSA, this year’s main Christmas tree will traditionally be set up on St. Sophia Square.
Despite the war, Kyiv residents and visitors will be able to see the festive atmosphere, but without mass events and unnecessary expenses from the city budget.
“The city will not spend budget funds on the arrangement of the location. All expenses will be covered by patrons,” the KCSA emphasized.
Who will install and finance the main Christmas tree
The initiator of the New Year’s location was Global Decor LLC, a company that has been participating in the festive decoration of the capital for several years.
The sponsors will fully provide:
- installation and dismantling of the Christmas tree;
- installation and maintenance of festive structures;
- all technical and resource costs.

What will be the Christmas location in 2025?
According to the decision of the Kyiv Defense Council, this year the following will be installed on St. Sophia Square:
- the main Christmas tree of Ukraine;
- a small skating rink;
- several stalls selling confectionery and hot drinks.
Restrictions due to the war
The organizers were obliged to strictly adhere to the regime of energy saving and security measures during the arrangement and operation of the festive area.
Kyiv’s Defense Council also recommended that district administrations and entrepreneurs refrain from holding mass events in open spaces during the Christmas and New Year period.
When will Kyiv’s main Christmas tree be opened?
Preparatory work on St. Sophia Square will begin on November 8, and the festive location will traditionally open on December 6, St. Nicholas Day.
At the same time, the Kyiv City State Administration emphasizes that there will be no mass celebrations in the city center this year. The festive décor is intended to create a symbolic atmosphere of hope and unity for Kyiv residents in these difficult times.
