Schedules do not work: emergency blackouts introduced in Kyiv and two regions
27 October 09:42
On the morning of October 27, emergency power outages were introduced in Kyiv, Kyiv and Dnipro regions. This was reported on DTEK’s website and in city notification services, in particular in the Kyiv Digital app, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“At the command of Ukrenergo, emergency blackouts have been introduced in Kyiv, Kyiv and Dnipro regions,” the statement said.
The outages occur without warning and outside of the schedules that usually help consumers plan their electricity use.
As noted in the statement, these measures were introduced by order of NPC Ukrenergo due to the critical situation in the power system caused by Russia’s regular missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Where the blackouts occurred:
- Kyiv city – part of the capital was left without electricity in the morning.
- Kyiv region.
- Dnipropetrovs’k region.
Later it became known that emergency blackouts were also in effect in Sumy region, where part of the regional center was cut off due to damage to the power grid as a result of the strikes.
Why the schedules do not work
NPC Ukrenergo did not predict any outages the day before. However, due to a sharp increase in the power deficit and damage to power facilities, it had to apply emergency restrictions that do not fall within the planned schedules.
“Schedules that can be predicted in advance are not in effect now,” DTEK emphasizes.
What the energy companies are asking for
Energy companies urge Ukrainians to use electricity as economically as possible:
- not to turn on energy-intensive appliances at the same time,
- limit the use of electric stoves, boilers, and air conditioners,
- turn off lights in rooms where no one is present.
The situation is under control, but tense
According to experts, the attacks on the power system are aimed at creating a shortage of capacity ahead of the cold weather. Ukrenergo emphasizes that all services are working to restore power supply, but the risk of repeated emergency outages remains.
