The flu and respiratory season is in full swing in Ukraine, and the number of cases is growing.
According to the Center for Public Health (CPH), 123,364 people fell ill with acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) from October 20 to 26, more than half of them children under 17, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Ukrinform.

“The proportion of children among all patients is 58.8%. The indicators generally correspond to the background level for Ukraine,” Danylenko said.

Where the situation is the worst

Currently, the epidemic threshold has been exceeded only in the Zhytomyr region, and only slightly.
In other regions, the incidence rate remains within the seasonal norm.

Since the beginning of the epidemic season (i.e., since the end of September), more than 510 thousand Ukrainians have fallen ill. This is 8.8% more than in the same period last year.
No flu-related deaths have been reported.

What viruses are circulating

Experts predict the circulation of influenza viruses of types A and B, which traditionally dominate during the cold season.
In addition, 1797 cases of COVID-19 were detected among patients with SARS, which is 30% less than a week earlier.

Danylenko reminded that the COVID-19 vaccine is available in all regions and is “effective against new strains.”

Vaccination and prevention

The Ministry of Health has already announced the delivery of 20 thousand doses of flu vaccine for healthcare workers.
The epidemic season officially started on September 29, 2025, and will last until May 17, 2026.

Doctors remind that the best way to protect yourself is to get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19, especially for people with chronic diseases, the elderly and children.

Despite the growing number of cases, Ukraine has not yet entered the epidemic phase.
However, experts expect a peak in the incidence in December-January, when several viruses circulate in the air at the same time.

Doctors advise Ukrainians not to ignore symptoms, stay home when sick, and avoid taking antibiotics on their own.
