Inflation in Ukraine has accelerated: prices rose by 1.7% in March

In Ukraine, inflation in March 2026 stood at 1.7% compared to February, and at 7.9% year-over-year.
This was reported by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to statistics, core inflation in March stood at:
- 1.5% on a monthly basis;
- 7.1% on an annual basis.
How food prices changed
Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.3% in March.
The biggest price increases were:
- eggs — by 7.7% over the month (20.1% year-over-year);
- grain products;
- sunflower oil;
- fruit;
- bread;
- fish and fish products;
- beef;
- vegetables.
At the same time, some products became cheaper:
- sugar;
- pasta;
- rice;
- pork;
- poultry;
- butter.
Alcohol and tobacco
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 1.1%.
The main reason was a 1.3% increase in the price of tobacco products.
Clothing and footwear
The largest price increase in March was recorded in the clothing and footwear category.
On average, prices rose by 12%, specifically:
- clothing — by 12%;
- footwear — by 11.8%.
Transportation and Fuel
Prices in the transportation sector rose by 6.4%.
The main reasons were:
- a 13.2% increase in the cost of fuel and lubricants (23.4% year-over-year);
- increases in fares:
- in rail transport—by 8.2%;
- in road passenger transport — by 6%.
Communications
This is primarily due to a 3.8% increase in mobile communication costs.
In the communications sector, prices rose by 2.5%.
A month earlier, in February 2026, inflation in Ukraine stood at:
- 1% on a monthly basis;
- 7.6% year-over-year.
In other words, in March, the pace of consumer price growth accelerated slightly, primarily due to higher prices for energy, transportation, and certain food products.
