Ukrainian athlete Pavlo Bal has won a historic Paralympic award in the handcycling competition. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine.

Pavlo won a bronze medal in the handicap, becoming the first Ukrainian to win an award in this type of cycling.

“The first medal in the history of Ukraine in the debut event (handbike) ‼️ And this is the 54th medal of Ukraine. Pavlo Bal (Lviv region) won a bronze medal in the group race (highway), class H5, in para-cycling,” the statement said.

For 38-year-old Pavlo, these are the first Paralympic Games in cycling in his career, as he has been competing in this discipline for only two years. Bal won a licence for the Games after competing at the second stage of the Para Cycling World Cup, where he took 9th place and was in the top 20 of the world rankings, which was enough to qualify for a licence.
