IT sector keeps foreign exchange earnings: almost every second dollar from service exports
7 January 17:42
Exports of IT services brought Ukraine $5.97 billion in 11 months of 2025. This is stated in the data of Openatabot, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
In annual terms, revenues grew slightly – by just over 2%, which indicates the stabilization of the industry, but not a return to pre-war or peak performance.
How much does IT earn right now
On average, the IT sector brings $543 million to Ukraine every month. For comparison, in 2022, the average monthly figure was higher – about $612 million.
In November 2025, exports of IT services decreased by another 4.1%, to the same $543 million, which is $23 million less than in October.
Why growth does not mean prosperity
Analysts warn that despite the formal growth, it is too early to talk about the industry’s recovery. The current $5.97 billion:
- 3% less than in 2021,
- almost 10% less than in the peak year of 2022.
This means that IT remains one of the most resilient export sectors, but it is operating in a prolonged recession after a sharp increase at the beginning of the full-scale war.
How important is IT for exports?
Despite all the losses, IT remains a key source of foreign exchange earnings:
- 42% of all exports of services are accounted for by IT,
- 12% of Ukraine’s total exports (goods and services) are generated by the IT sector.
In fact, almost every second dollar that Ukraine earns from exporting services comes from IT.
Overall, the situation with exports remains difficult:
- exports of services decreased by 9% to $14.33 billion over the year,
- total exports of goods and services decreased by 5% to $49.21 billion.
