Israel to open Rafah crossing on Gaza border with Egypt

26 January 04:09

Israel has decided to open the Rafah checkpoint, located on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, on a limited basis and under its full control.

This was reported by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“As part of [US President Donald] Trump’s 20-point plan, Israel has agreed to open the Rafah crossing in a limited mode only for the passage of people and under full Israeli control,” the statement said.

As noted by the office, the decision to open the checkpoint “was conditioned on the return of all living hostages and full efforts” by the Palestinian movement Hamas to search for and return all those who were kidnapped and did not survive.

They also stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is currently “conducting a targeted operation, using all intelligence information, as part of efforts to search for and return the remains of hostage Rana Gvili.”

“After the completion of the operation [which began on January 25] and in accordance with the agreement with the United States, Israel will open the Rafah crossing,” the office emphasized.

This checkpoint is the only crossing point in the Gaza Strip that was not controlled by Israel before the war in the Palestinian enclave.
