The Government to give reservations from mobilisation to the film industry and camel breeding enterprises
19 March 2024 13:45
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine intends to book workers in industries that are not related to heavy industry or defence. In particular, this list includes such specialities as camel breeding, film and television production. This was reported by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko, according to Komersant ukrainskyi
“The Cabinet of Ministers wants to provide a reservation to camel breeding enterprises, but not to exporters and industry. Now the Government is identifying strategically important enterprises where they plan to book employees. Spoiler alert – there are no defence or industrial enterprises there,”
– Goncharenko said.
He noted that neither defence nor industrial enterprises are on the list.
According to him, the list of economic activities that are strategically important for the country’s economy includes camel breeding, plastering and painting, publishing catalogues, publishing computer games, and producing films and television programmes.
“It doesn’t look funny, it’s absurd. Is camel breeding or TV series production now more economically important than those who provide our GDP and ability to wage war?”
– the MP wrote.
New draft law on mobilisation
on 7 February, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a new draft law on mobilisation without proposals from the relevant committee. It is expected to be voted on as a whole at the end of February, and the draft law may come into force in April.
The draft law proposes, among other things, to introduce summonses through the conscript’s electronic cabinet. Other innovations include lowering the conscription age to 25, setting the demobilisation period at 36 months, introducing voluntary mobilisation for convicts, restrictions on evaders, banning civil service without military training, etc.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security has begun analysing the amendments submitted to the Government’s draft law 10449 on strengthening mobilisation. There are more than 4,000 such amendments.
