omans, companies and vessels that help the Kremlin circumvent oil restrictions. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the website of the Canadian government.
Thus, on June 17, the Canadian government increased its pressure on Russia.
The restrictions imposed by the country will primarily affect people from the entourage of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Today, Canada is announcing several measures, primarily sanctions against a number of individuals in Russia, against more than 40 organizations in Russia and abroad,” said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the G7 summit.
Thus, the new restrictions imposed by Canada affected a number of individuals and legal entities, as well as vessels of the so-called “shadow fleet” that transport oil at inflated prices.
Who was sanctioned
More than 70 people have been sanctioned by Canada, including:
- Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, the former wife of Vladimir Putin;

- Tatiana Yumasheva, daughter of the first president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin;
- Valentin Yumashev is her husband;

This is the first time that Putin’s ex-wife has been officially sanctioned.
Canada has also imposed restrictions on ships that help Russia circumvent the oil embargo – the so-called “shadow fleet” that transports energy at artificially high prices.
In a statement, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand’s office said that this is “one of Canada’s most important sanctions announcements since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. It is also the largest package of sanctions related to courts and trade.
The new sanctions cover a range of industries, from “goods related to the production of chemical and biological weapons” to “vessels involved in the transportation of oil, liquefied natural gas, weapons and other goods in favor of Russia.”
