Potatoes may halve in price in the fall

Potatoes may soon become very noticeably cheaper in Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to AgroReview.
Commercial director of Van Dyke Technics Andriy Marushchak told the publication that in the fall, when the new season starts, potatoes may cost about 10 hryvnias per kilogram.
According to representatives of the Ukrainian Potato Growers Association, some agricultural enterprises have doubled the volume of potato cultivation this year. This situation may create an oversupply of goods on the market and cause a drop in prices compared to previous periods.
The expert emphasizes that the return to the previous low prices (about 5 hryvnia per kilogram) is unrealistic, but a decrease to 10 hryvnia per kilogram is quite possible, especially in early October.
As for cabbage, Maruschak warns of possible overproduction of this vegetable. Due to the high cost of cabbage in the previous season, many agrarians decided to expand the area under this crop. Since growing cabbage is a relatively simple process, there is a risk of oversupply on the market in the new season.

Actual prices for potatoes in Ukraine as of August 25th
According to the price monitoring data of the project“Minfin“, as of today the average price of potatoes in Ukraine is 18.90 UAH per kilogram. This price remains stable during the last week – from August 20 to 24, the cost of potatoes did not change.
Compared to July 2025, prices have decreased significantly. If in July the average price was 35.41 UAH/kg, now it has almost halved. The decrease in prices in large retail chains is especially noticeable:
- Metro: from 30.90 UAH/kg in July to the current 20 UAH/kg on average;
- Auchan: from 39.91 UAH/kg in July to the current 23 UAH/kg on average.
Such dynamics confirms experts’ forecasts about significant reduction of potato prices in August and indicates that such reduction may continue. Stability of prices during the last week may indicate the establishment of a new price level in the market.
Last month’s data (since July 25) showed that average prices have stabilized at the current level, which may indicate a balance between supply and demand in the potato market.
