The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has served a notice of suspicion to the head of a contractor who allegedly embezzled more than UAH 2.7 million of budget funds during the repair of external power supply lines on the Syretsko-Pecherska section of the Kyiv subway line, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Details of the case
According to the prosecutor’s office, the Kyiv Metro utility company entered into an agreement with a contractor to lay more than a thousand meters of high-voltage cable. The work was carried out last year.
The investigation found that the company’s director used cable purchased in Ukraine, but indicated in the documents that it was purchased abroad. This allowed him to overstate the cost of the material.
Expertise and damages
Experts confirmed that the Kyiv Metro overpaid more than UAH 2.7 million due to the overpricing.

Criminal liability
The suspect was served with a notice of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – misappropriation of property by abuse of office committed on a particularly large scale and under martial law.
Cases of misuse of budgetary funds under martial law are of particular importance, as the efficient use of public resources is critical to maintaining the country’s infrastructure and defense capabilities.
