The Cyberpolice of Ukraine warns WhatsApp users about a new fraudulent scheme in which criminals tell them about financial accounts and the receipt of large sums of money, Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
On WhatsApp, users are starting to receive messages from criminals claiming that a financial account has been added and that it already has a lot of money. In order to get money from the account, the attackers are asked to follow a link and enter payment details.
The stolen data can be used to access the victims’ online banking and steal their money.
Cyberpolice reminds how to avoid becoming a victim of phishing scams:
- do not click on unknown and suspicious links;
- do not enter personal information and bank card details on such websites;
- ignore messages from strangers sent in SMS, messengers, emails, as well as phone calls informing you of large winnings;
- block users who send you such messages, and file a complaint with the moderators of the respective messenger.
