The Cyberpolice of Ukraine warns WhatsApp users about a new fraudulent scheme in which criminals tell them about financial accounts and the receipt of large sums of money, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

On WhatsApp, users are starting to receive messages from criminals claiming that a financial account has been added and that it already has a lot of money. In order to get money from the account, the attackers are asked to follow a link and enter payment details.

The stolen data can be used to access the victims’ online banking and steal their money.

Cyberpolice reminds how to avoid becoming a victim of phishing scams:

  • do not click on unknown and suspicious links;
  • do not enter personal information and bank card details on such websites;
  • ignore messages from strangers sent in SMS, messengers, emails, as well as phone calls informing you of large winnings;
  • block users who send you such messages, and file a complaint with the moderators of the respective messenger.
