The number of deportations of illegal migrants from Germany in the first 10 months of 2025 increased by 18% compared to the same period last year, the German Interior Ministry said on Sunday, November 23. From January to October, 19,538 illegal migrants were expelled to their countries of origin, or about 65 people a day, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 16,563 deportations were carried out during the same period in 2024. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of deportations from Germany has now increased by 45%.
German Interior Minister intends to continue a tough course
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that the authorities will adhere to a tougher migration policy and plans to intensify the expulsion of foreigners who do not have legal grounds for residence in the country. This includes the deportation of migrants to Syria and Afghanistan.
“We are talking about control, a course and a clear position in migration policy, and this also applies to deportations. We are consistently pursuing this course and preparing for deportations to Syria and Afghanistan,” he said.
In early October, Dobryndt said that an agreement with the Islamist Taliban movement, which rules in Afghanistan, on regular deportations of Afghans could soon be signed.
