Death toll in Kyiv rises to 23: 7 more people are pulled from the rubble

In Kyiv, the death toll from the Russian attack on June 17 has risen to 23. The bodies of seven more people have been recovered from the rubble. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

According to Timur Tkachenko, the head of the KMVA, the rubble was being cleared and people were being searched for all night.

“Unfortunately, the worst forecasts are coming true. Some of those Kyiv residents who stopped communicating after the attack yesterday were found under the rubble without signs of life,” said Tkachenko.

As of 07:00, the bodies of five more dead people were unblocked from the rubble of a partially destroyed building.

“Search operations in Solomyansky district have been going on all night long. As of 07:00, the bodies of 5 more dead people were unblocked from the rubble of a partially destroyed nine-story building,” the SES reported.

Later, the State Emergency Service clarified that rescuers had unblocked another body, bringing the death toll to 18.

Tkachenko clarified that rescuers unblocked the body of another woman from the rubble.

As of 10:00 a.m., the total death toll in the capital has reached 23 people, and 134 more people have been injured of varying severity.

A day of mourning has been declared in Kyiv. The city authorities call on residents to honor the memory of all the victims.

“Eternal memory to each and every one whose life was taken by Russia,” emphasized Tkachenko.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports that search operations are ongoing, with rescuers working around the clock. People may still be trapped under the rubble.

What is known about the night attack on Kyiv on June 17

On the night of June 17, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine. According to preliminary data, the occupiers fired 440 drones and 32 missiles of various types. The capital has suffered serious damage – the strikes hit residential buildings in Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

Particularly extensive damage was recorded in the Solomyansky district, where a Russian ballistic missile hit a nine-story building. The force of the impact was so powerful that the missile pierced several concrete floors and even reached the basement.

During the day on June 17, the number of casualties and injuries was constantly growing. As of the morning of June 18, 23 people were killed and 134 wounded in Kyiv. Rescuers continue to work at the scene of the tragedy, clearing the rubble and searching for people who may be trapped under the debris.
