When are the fall vacations: recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science and exceptions

Ukraine is approaching the autumn vacation period, and schoolchildren’s parents are already wondering when their children will have a vacation and whether the military situation will affect the schedule. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ministry of Education and Science.
When do the fall vacations start?
Traditionally, fall vacations in Ukrainian schools start on the last Monday of October and last for one week.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has recommended that the holidays be set from October 27 to November 2, 2025. However, these are only indicative dates – the final decision is made by each educational institution separately.
The Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes that schools have the right to independently determine the structure of the school year, taking into account the security situation in the region, the availability of shelters and energy stability.
Is there a possibility of canceling the fall vacation?
The likelihood of canceling or postponing the autumn holidays exists primarily in the frontline regions, where the educational process often depends on air raids and power outages.
In such cases, schools can change the vacation schedule – shorten it, move it to other dates, or combine it with winter break.
How the vacation schedule is formed
According to the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science, the total duration of vacations during the school year should be at least 30 calendar days.
At the same time, educational institutions independently determine the periods of rest.
The approximate vacation schedule for the 2025-2026 school year is as follows:
- Autumn holidays – from October 27 to November 2, 2025
- Winter holidays – from December 27, 2025 to January 11, 2026
- Spring break – from March 23 to 29, 2026
- Summer vacation – from June 1 to August 31, 2026.
Important: Vacations can be shifted by several days depending on the region and the school’s decision.
Thus, most Ukrainian students will have a vacation in late October, but the dates may vary depending on the security situation in the region.
