The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved the defense budget for 2026, which provides for $500 million in security assistance to Ukraine. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Reuters.
The draft NDAA, approved by the Senate Armed Services Committee on July 9 by 26 votes to 1, includes a provision to extend the Security Assistance Initiative for Ukraine until 2028.
This decision provides for an increase in authorized funding from $300 million in 2025 to $500 million.
In addition to assistance to Ukraine, the draft law also contains a number of other important provisions. In particular, it prohibits the controversial demand made in June by President Donald Trump to decommission the US Air Force’s A-10 fleet.
The total amount of national defense funding provided by the NDAA is $925 billion. Of this amount, $878.7 billion is allocated to the US Department of Defense, and $35.2 billion to the US Department of Energy.
The bill will go through the legislative process in the coming months. The Lower House of Representatives has maintained support for Ukraine at $300 million in its version.
The bill still needs to be approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives and signed by President Donald Trump.
