Compromise with Trump could be political suicide for Ukraine – expert

What will happen if Donald Trump manages to put pressure on Ukraine’s European partners and impose his own version of a compromise with Russia? And where exactly is the line that Kyiv cannot cross, even under pressure from its allies, discussed in an interview on the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian" by political strategist, military analyst, and former fighter of the special forces “Hort” Oleksandr Kondratenko.
“If you step into the shoes of the leader of Ukraine, any story related to the territories is a political suicide. Both Zelensky and the Presidential Office are well aware of this. Therefore, this is one of the “red lines” that Ukraine cannot cross,” the expert noted.
The second point is security guarantees. If it’s just a piece of paper, it won’t work. We have already signed such papers and seen what it led to.
“The third important aspect is the ‘red lines’, which are probably not so much related to freezing the conflict, but, in my deep conviction, to what can protect Ukraine from a repeat of the war. Because, to be clear, no matter how much we strive for peace, if at least one small point is agreed against us, the Trump administration will press, will say: “Finish it, tomorrow there will be no funding, no weapons, so agree to what we have,” and that’s it, the end of the line,” the expert emphasizes.
The only thing that can protect Ukraine from repeating the aggression is the development of its own military-industrial complex. A strong army within the country capable of producing missiles and various types of weapons. After all, the nature of the war has changed – now it is drones that do the most damage to the enemy or, in our case, protect our soldiers at the front, not the same Leopards, tanks, etc.
