23 June 13:39
Ruslan Kravchenko has officially taken up his duties as Prosecutor General of Ukraine. He announced this in a public address, emphasizing the rejection of old bureaucratic traditions and formal introduction by the President, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“There will be no old, bureaucratic ritual of introduction by the President of Ukraine, and this is our joint and balanced decision,” Kravchenko said.
Why there was no official ceremony of appointment of the Prosecutor General
According to Kravchenko, there are two reasons for this refusal:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is away on a business trip, where he is addressing international issues that are key to the country’s security.
- The new prosecutor’s office team is abandoning “Soviet habits” and choosing real action and responsibility over formal celebrations.
“Secondly, we do not waste time on empty formalities and move away from Soviet habits. Instead of bureaucracy, we choose actions and decisions. Instead of celebrations – responsibility,” the newly appointed Prosecutor General emphasized.
Kravchenko’s priorities as Prosecutor General
In his first address in office, Ruslan Kravchenko outlined the key areas of work:
- Strengthening the role of the Prosecutor’s Office as the main coordinator of law enforcement agencies in the field of combating crime and the functioning of the criminal justice system in general;
- Ensuring real trust in the prosecution authorities both from our society, the public and our international partners;
- Control over the legitimacy of the use of budget funds, zero tolerance to corruption in any area;
- Creating conditions for the further implementation of effective guarantees to protect the rights and legitimate interests of business;
- Ensuring fairness in every criminal proceeding, especially those related to the national security of the state;
- Personal control over the effectiveness of criminal proceedings related to attacks on the life and health of children and minors.
Kravchenko placed a special emphasis on bringing to justice war criminals who have committed crimes against Ukraine.
“The inevitability of punishment for criminals both in national courts and at the international level, and a special emphasis on crimes of aggression and war crimes, as well as the establishment of personal responsibility of each war criminal,” Kravchenko emphasized, thanking for the trust.

It should be noted that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine gave its consent to the President’s appointment of Ruslan Kravchenko as Prosecutor General.
