Bloody attack in Jerusalem: shooting at a bus stop kills six people

8 September 20:48

In Jerusalem, two armed men carried out an armed attack at a bus stop near the Ramot intersection. The shooting killed at least six people and injured 11 others.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to the Israeli police, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The attackers arrived in cars and then opened fire on passengers waiting for public transportation. The victims included a man and a woman in their 50s, as well as three young men in their 30s. Authorities later confirmed the death of another person.

Six of the victims are in critical condition, including a pregnant woman.

According to eyewitnesses, several bullet holes were visible on the bus at the bus stop, and the bodies of the victims remained on the road.

Law enforcement and military personnel who were nearby quickly engaged the attackers and eliminated them. The police called them “terrorists” without disclosing details.

“Faced with this barbarism, we witnessed extraordinary acts of heroism that prevented even more loss of innocent lives,” said Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

Security services evacuated the wounded and seized the attackers’ weapons. The Israel Defense Forces sent additional forces to the area to search for possible accomplices.

Meanwhile, the Hamas andIslamic Jihadgroups publicly welcomed the attack but did not claim responsibility.

European leaders have already expressed condolences to Israel and condemned the attack.

Jerusalem and other Israeli cities have been under the threat of terrorist attacks in recent months amid Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Since October 2023, the conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives and periodically spreads beyond Gaza – including the West Bank, Lebanon, and Israel itself.

Earlier this summer, there were attacks on civilians in Israel, particularly in Tel Aviv and Haifa. The country’s authorities regularly warn of the risk of sabotage and terrorist attacks, as militants from Hamas and related groups try to demonstrate that they can operate outside Gaza.
