He bought cars and financially helped the army: what is known about Angelina Jolie’s “bodyguard” detained by TCC employees

The driver in the motorcade of American actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie, which was stopped on November 5 by representatives of the Mykolaiv Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TSC and SP), was a 33-year-old combat sambo coach from Kropyvnytskyi, Dmytro.
His brother, Yevhen Pyshchykov, told Suspilne on November 6. According to him, Dmytro did not serve in the army. He passed the military department at the flight academy 10 years ago, [Komersant] reports.
“We were traveling in a motorcade, but he is not a bodyguard. He is from a public organization, he is an escort, to show and tell how the volunteer rode with him. He’s not Angelina Jolie’s bodyguard. He’s not in a pinstripes. He has a back condition that prevents him from turning. He has a fresh 2025 medical certificate. He had all the documents and a volunteer certificate with him. He is fit to serve in the TCC and JV and rear support units.”
Dmytro’s girlfriend, Yulia Lotytska, told Suspilne that his phone has been turned off since the morning. He does not answer calls and messages. She went to Mykolaiv region to find out where Dmytro was and what happened to him.
“He called me yesterday in the late afternoon. I had written him several times before, but he did not answer. Then I decided to call him, but his phone was off. And after a while he called me back and told me information that he was in Mykolaiv region, Voznesensk, the TCC. That he was detained, he was moving with a motorcade. He was offered to be accompanied by Angelina Jolie, and he agreed. He is a public figure in our city. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has been working directly with the military, buying them cars, organizing regular meetings. He has a freshly passed medical examination in June this year. He has a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic inflammatory disease that affects mainly the joints of the spine.”
According to media reports, one of the drivers of Angelina Jolie’s motorcade is a citizen of Ukraine, a reserve officer who had problems with his military records. The man was asked to drive to the South Ukrainian TCC and JV. According to the available information, there was no conflict between Angelina Jolie and representatives of the TCC, the ambassador visited the building of the recruitment center to use the restroom.
Suspilne asked the Mykolaiv Regional TCC and the JV for comments. on November 6, we received the official position of the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Suspilne was informed that the military personnel of the Voznesensk District Recruitment and Social Support Center and local police found out that Dmytro did not have military registration documents. He was taken to the center to clarify his status as a person liable for military service.
“During the check, we found out that he is a reserve officer and has no confirmed grounds for deferral from mobilization. According to the conclusion of the military medical commission of June 2025, he is fit for military service in military support units, thermal centers, military higher education institutions, training centers, institutions and establishments, medical units, logistics, communications, operational support, and security units.”
Dmytro was part of a group that accompanied actress Angelina Jolie as a driver. This group stayed close by during the background check, and after all the circumstances were clarified, the actress continued her planned visits. Neither she nor her representatives influenced the work of the military and civil servants of the recruitment center, the Land Forces Command explained.
