The Kyiv City Council has approved the installation of the first six mini-CHP plants in different districts of Kyiv. These mini-CHP plants will be located on both the right and left banks of the city, in densely populated residential areas. This was announced by Deputy Mayor and Secretary of the Kyiv City Council Volodymyr Bondarenko, reports [Kommersant]

He noted that, in addition to mini-CHP plants, the city is also considering installing individual boilers for apartment buildings. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has already instructed to develop a relevant programme.

The concept of restoring and improving the resilience of Kyiv’s power system was presented on 16 May by Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev. According to him, the city has developed and started implementing measures to create a network of local cogeneration sources that simultaneously produce heat and electricity.

These facilities will be located near consumers, which will allow the city’s power system to be more autonomous in the event of Russian shelling. The concept of restoring Kyiv’s power system is designed to last for 12-15 years and will cost up to €1.2 billion. However, the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, ensuring uninterrupted heat supply to approximately 300,000 Kyiv residents.
