China does not want the war in Ukraine to end – The Hill

China publicly demonstrates friendship with Russia, but behind closed doors, Beijing is increasingly concerned about developments. Speaking to European diplomats, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China cannot allow Russia to fail in order to prevent the United States from focusing its attention on China. However, according to experts, this statement is a diplomatic maneuver.
This was reported by The Hill. It is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
In fact, Beijing is not afraid of the United States, which is located overseas, but of Russia, its closest ally, which could become a threat. There are at least three scenarios, each of which is dangerous for China.
If Russia wins on the battlefield, the Kremlin could start acting with a new imperial appetite, particularly toward NATO countries or Kazakhstan. This would put Beijing in an extremely difficult geopolitical position. A successful Russia could revise the terms of its partnership with China, demand greater preferences, or even intensify revisionism toward Chinese territories that were once under the control of the Russian Empire.
In the event of Russia’s defeat, an internal collapse is not excluded: civil war, the collapse of the federation, and the secession of ethnic republics. Chaos on China’s northern border, where there are millions of refugees and uncontrolled areas, will be Beijing’s No. 1 challenge.
The third option, which is most beneficial to China, is a long war without victory. Weak, exhausted, and dependent on Beijing, Russia will be forced to agree to all the conditions of its Chinese overlord. This model is in China’s long-term interests.
Thus, despite its statements of support for Moscow, China is actually interested in the weakness of its “friend.” And what is beneficial to Beijing is also beneficial to the West. This means that helping Ukraine contain Putin could have global consequences that benefit all parties except the Kremlin.
