Latvia to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine worth EUR 10 million

The Latvian government has allocated 10 million euros for the purchase of artillery ammunition for Ukraine as part of a Czech initiative. This was reported by Delfi, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Defence Minister Andris Spruds said that the allocated money will be used to purchase more than three thousand large-calibre 155 mm shells.
Spruds added that 100 drones have recently been sent to Ukraine. The second batch, consisting of about 1,000 combat drones of various capacities, is scheduled to be shipped in June.
So far, the countries participating in the drone coalition have announced funding of more than half a billion euros for the purchase of drones.
The minister reminded that in 2024 and the next two years, Latvia will provide Ukraine with military support in the amount of 0.25% of its gross domestic product. This year it is 112 million euros.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministries of Defence of Latvia and the Czech Republic signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of military and technical assistance to Ukraine at a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine’s defence in Ramstein on 19 March. It provides for the purchase of large-calibre ammunition for Ukraine’s needs.
On 14 February, several countries signed a letter of intent to participate in the drone coalition alongside Latvia. Latvia will allocate at least EUR 10 million a year for the development of the drone coalition. The intention of the coalition is to provide one million drones for Ukraine’s needs.
