Lavrov made a series of cynical statements about Ukraine: what he said

Recently, the Kremlin suffered a defeat on the diplomatic front. Donald Trump canceled his meeting with Putin in Budapest, and Marco Rubio refused to hold talks with Lavrov. The Americans have realized that the Russians do not want a real end to the war, but are only stalling for time.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

The meeting between Lavrov and Rubio scheduled for October 23 was canceled. The Russian minister himself saw this as a “positive” development. At least that’s what he said in an interview with the Hungarian YouTube channel Ultrahang.

According to the official, his conversation with Rubio on October 20 went really well, as the United States did not see the need for a face-to-face meeting.

During this conversation, the topic of new talks or meetings was not raised. Lavrov emphasized that Russia is ready to continue contacts with the United States at a pace that is comfortable for the Americans. The Putin-Trump summit in Budapest may still take place. Everything will depend on the American side.
In addition, the minister confirmed that the Russians are discussing the issue of territories within the Ukrainian settlement with the Americans in various formats.

Lavrov called the calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine an attempt by Zelenskyy to “buy time.”

The Russian minister actually admitted that the Kremlin has unlimited appetites in Ukraine. He cynically stated that Russia controls territories outside Donbas and Novorossiya because it needs a buffer zone.

Lavrov also falsely emphasized that “Russia will undoubtedly recognize Ukraine’s independence,” but only if the “regime” in Ukraine changes. However, according to him, the residents of the occupied regions were allegedly subjected to “shocking discrimination by Kyiv.” The minister lamented that people in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, which Russia “wrote into its constitution,” were treated as “second-class citizens” in Ukraine.
