The legendary Volkswagen Golf may soon become a Mexican car

The management of the German concern Volkswagen is considering the possibility of moving the production of the legendary Golf to Mexico. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Handelsblatt.
Currently, VW plants are in the midst of a restructuring of production distribution, and insiders say that the production of the legendary Golf is unlikely to remain in Wolfsburg in the era of electric vehicles. It is very likely that, following the equally legendary Beetle, Golf production will be moved to Mexico. This is one of several scenarios currently under consideration, but no final decision has been made.
In Puebla, Mexico, Volkswagen operates the largest automotive plant in North America. This plant has been producing the iconic Beetle for almost four decades. The Golf may soon be produced there as well. Until now, this iconic model has always been produced at the company’s main plant.
VW refused to comment on this information. A representative of the works council said he did not want to comment on speculation, which is far from a final decision.
However, the next scheduled meeting of the VW Group will be crucial for the future of the Golf. It was originally scheduled for mid-November. However, due to the ongoing negotiations on VW’s cost-saving program and discussions with the IG Metall trade union on a new labor contract, the decisions of the important Supervisory Board meeting are being postponed. This also applies to the distribution of production at VW’s more than 100 automobile plants around the world – and, accordingly, the future of the Golf model.

Volkswagen Golf
The Volkswagen Golf is a 5-seater car manufactured by the German concern Volkswagen AG that belongs to the compact class with a hatchback body. The model was launched in 1974 as a replacement for the legendary Beetle. The Golf has become Volkswagen’s most successful model and is ranked third in the list of the world’s best-selling cars. As of March 2007, 25 million cars of this model of all modifications were produced.
Throughout its history, the Golf has gone through eight generations of development, each of which brought technical and design improvements. The model was offered with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines of various capacities, manual and automatic transmissions. In addition to the basic hatchback, there were also versions with a station wagon, convertible, and sedan body (which was sold under the name Jetta and later Vento).
The latest, eighth generation Golf was unveiled in October 2019 in Wolfsburg. The car is built on the MQB platform and, for the first time in its price segment, received a fully digital cockpit as standard equipment in all versions. LED optics are also standard on all versions, and IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights are available in more expensive trims.
