Golda Meir’s letter about the 1972 Munich terrorist attack to be auctioned

A historic letter by former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, in which she condemns the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist attack, will be auctioned off. This was reported byThe Jerusalem Post, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The document is dated October 2, 1972 and is addressed to former US Senator George Murphy. In the letter, printed on the official letterhead of the Prime Minister, Meir thanks for the support and emphasizes the need for a global condemnation of terrorism.

“I know how much you feel about this brutal act. Only the world’s deep awareness of the danger of terrorist activity and its uncompromising condemnation can help stop such crimes,” the message reads.

The letter is signed by Golda Meir herself. The letter measures 22×30 cm, has creases and minor abrasions, but is generally in very good condition. The lot comes with a PSA certificate of authenticity. The starting price is $6,000.

The Munich terrorist attack took place on September 5, 1972. Eight militants of the Palestinian group Black September infiltrated the Olympic village, took hostages from the Israeli national team and killed 12 athletes and coaches. Among the dead were coach Moshe Weinberg and wrestler Yusef Romano, who tried to resist.

Earlier, a whip used by Harrison Ford in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was sold at auction for $525,000.
