Magnetic storms in early February: what the forecast shows

4 February 18:12

No significant magnetic storms are expected on Earth between February 3 and 4, 2026. Solar activity will remain low. This is evidenced by data from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center ( SWPC), reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

What is the forecast?

On Tuesday, February 3, geomagnetic activity with a K-index of 2 is forecast, which corresponds to weak green-level magnetic storms.

On Wednesday, February 4, an even lower index is expected — K-index 1.7, which is also classified as weak geomagnetic activity.

Experts note that magnetic storm forecasts may be adjusted, as solar activity data is updated every three hours. Therefore, Ukrainians are advised to follow the latest updates.

Why do magnetic storms occur?

Magnetic storms occur as a result of solar flares and explosions, during which charged particles are released into space. Upon reaching the Earth’s magnetosphere, they can affect atmospheric pressure, communication systems, and human well-being.

On the K-index scale, readings from 1 to 4 are considered insignificant and are not usually felt by most people. Storms with a K-index of 5 and above are classified as strong and can affect health and technical systems.

What doctors advise

During periods of increased solar activity, doctors advise maintaining a regular sleep schedule, avoiding stress, drinking enough water, and not overworking the body.
