Massive power cuts occurred in the occupied part of Donetsk region: the occupation authorities claim that 500,000 subscribers are without electricity. Residents of Donetsk, Makiivka and other settlements reported power outages. People talk about sudden flashes, explosions and communication problems. How the blackout happened: what the locals say
On the evening of November 16, a large-scale power outage occurred in the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk region. According to residents, the power went out after 10:00 pm.
According to eyewitnesses, there was a massive drone attack. In particular, many drones were spotted flying over the temporarily occupied Donetsk, and enemy air defense was active.
As noted in Telegram channels, a substation was hit first, after which the entire city controlled by the Russian occupiers was left without electricity.
In addition to Donetsk, Yasynuvata and at least the Chervonohvardiyskyi district of Makiivka are also without electricity.
What the occupation administration says
On the morning of November 17, the so-called “head of the DPR” Denis Pushilin said that the blackout was allegedly caused by an attack by attack drones on energy infrastructure facilities.
According to him, about 500,000 subscribers in Donetsk, Makiivka, Horlivka and Yasynuvata were left without electricity.
The occupation authorities claim that emergency crews have begun work to restore electricity supply. The power has allegedly been partially restored in Horlivka, as well as in some areas of Donetsk and Makiivka. Emergency repairs are ongoing.

Local residents reported explosions and drone activity before the blackout.
According to the occupation authorities, about half a million subscribers were affected.
