In 2024, the NBU’s BankID system remained one of the most popular methods of remote identification, and the total number of successful identifications using it amounted to 87.7 million over the year, which is more than 2 times more than a year earlier. This was reported by the National Bank, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs.

The BankID system provides users with access to a wide range of remote services in Ukraine.

The number of successful electronic identifications of commercial subscribers over the past year increased by more than a third and amounted to 5.8 million identifications. Financial services remained the most popular among commercial users.

The number of successful electronic identifications of non-commercial subscribers doubled in 2024 and reached 81.8 million.

As in the previous year, the largest number of successful identifications using the NBU BankID System was made on government portals, in particular

16.8 million – for signing petitions and appeals to state and local authorities, which is 36% more than in 2023;

14.2 million – to receive services from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is 73% more than in 2023;

7.8 million – in the Diia app, which is 90% more than in 2023.

The expansion of the list of remote services in the public and financial sectors helped to attract more system participants. Thus, in 2024, 22 new subscribers were connected to the NBU BankID System, including:

18 – commercial institutions

3 – non-profit organizations;

1 – identifier bank (Piraeus Bank ICB JSC).

Thus, at the beginning of 2025, the system had 39 identifier subscribers and 110 service provider subscribers (including 96 commercial institutions and 14 non-profit organizations).

According to the NBU, an important decision in 2024 was the integration of the system with the state application “Reserve”. The NBU’s BankID system has become the only authentication method for remotely updating the data of persons liable for military service. This has enabled millions of Ukrainians to update their credentials in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Ukraine On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization. Since the launch of the Reserve app, 16.4 million successful identifications have been made through the NBU’s BankID system.

Also, in the summer of 2024, the NBU BankID System became available for another public service – the Mriya educational application, which provides students, parents, and teachers with tools for the educational process.

What is the NBU BankID system?

BankID is a state-owned remote identification system that enables the transfer of personal data from the bank where the account is opened to the entity that provides the service to the user.

The system was created for individuals to receive services that require identification/verification when providing remote services:

– banking and non-banking financial institutions;

– government agencies, public and municipal organizations;

– commercial institutions.

To use the NBU’s BankID System, individuals do not need to register additionally; it is enough to have an account with a bank that is a member of the system and have access to their bank’s mobile or Internet banking.

Electronic remote identification of individuals using the NBU’s BankID System is carried out by transferring personal data of such a person from the identifier subscriber (the bank where the user’s account is opened) to the service provider subscriber, which provides the service to the user and is safe for users. Only the user (personal data owner) can initiate data transfer. Information in the system is transmitted in an encrypted form in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation.
