McDonald’s is returning to the south: preparations are underway for the opening of a restaurant in Mykolaiv

24 March 15:25

The McDonald’s fast-food chain may reopen its restaurant in Mykolaiv in the coming days, which has been closed since 2022.

This was announced by Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during a recording of the “Economic Chronicles” podcast, according to Ekonomichna Pravda, as reported by [Komersant].

What is known about the opening

According to Vitaliy Kim, preparations for the restaurant’s launch are already underway in the city.

The McDonald’s restaurant is expected to open in late March.

The restaurant in Mykolaiv has been closed since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

Previous statements by the company

Back in February, the regional governor reported that he had spoken with the chain’s management.

At that time, McDonald’s press service noted that they were considering the possibility of resuming operations, but the final decision depended on a number of external factors, particularly security concerns.

The company emphasized that it traditionally announces restaurant openings directly on the day of launch on its official website and social media.

The chain’s return to Ukrainian cities

Since the start of the full-scale war, the chain has been gradually resuming restaurant operations in various regions of the country.

Specifically:

  • On March 6, a restaurant opened in Irpin—this became the chain’s 123rd location operating in Ukraine;
  • On March 19, a new restaurant opened in Lviv.

Why this matters

The resumption of operations by international companies in frontline or affected cities is often seen as an indicator of economic recovery and stabilization of the business environment.
