McDonald’s enters Bukovel: what does the opening of a restaurant in Ukraine’s largest resort mean?

A McDonald’s restaurant is planned to open at the Bukovel ski resort. The launch of the establishment is scheduled for 2026, and construction has already begun in the village of Polianytsia in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Who is implementing the project
The project is being implemented by Bukovel LLC, whose beneficiaries are the family of businessman Ihor Palytsia. The company has confirmed the construction of a fast food restaurant.
At the same time, McDonald’s Ukraine has not yet disclosed details about the format of the future restaurant, the amount of investment, or the exact opening date.
Why does the resort need McDonald’s?
The arrival of the international chain is seen as part of a strategy to develop year-round tourism in Bukovel, not just in winter but also in summer. For the resort, this means:
- strengthening of infrastructure,
- increased commercial attractiveness,
- a signal of stability for other investors.
Experts note that even in wartime, big business in Ukraine is betting on long-term projects, especially in the relatively safe tourist regions of the west of the country.
McDonald’s experience in western regions
McDonald’s already has experience working in tourist locations in the Carpathian region. In 2023, the company opened a restaurant in Yaremche — the chain’s first establishment in a mountain resort town and its second in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
How many McDonald’s restaurants have opened since the start of the full-scale war
After Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, McDonald’s:
- temporarily suspended operations,
- resumed operations in Ukraine in August 2022,
- opened and reopened more than 40 restaurants in different regions of the country.
As of now:
- 121 restaurants are open,
- 15 remain closed for safety reasons.
The company has also announced plans to open 11 new restaurants in 2026, and the Bukovel location may be one of them.
What this means for the region
For tourists and residents of the region, the arrival of McDonald’s in Bukovel means:
- expanded services and amenities,
- new jobs,
- an additional flow of visitors.
For the market, it is another sign that international brands continue to operate and invest in Ukraine despite the war.
