I am not ashamed to earn 970,000 hryvnia a month, says the director of Ukrposhta

Igor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, disclosed his salaryin an interview with Yanina Sokolovskaya and stated that he is “not ashamed” of it, according to [Komersant]

He was referring to his gross salary for 2024 (11.72 million hryvnia per year, or an average of 970,000 hryvnia per month before taxes). After paying taxes in Ukraine and the US (where he is a tax resident), he received about 577,000 hryvnia per month.

In 2026, as he mentioned on the air of Suspilne, his salary had already reached about UAH 700,000 net.

In a conversation with Yanina Sokolovskaya, Smelyansky said that he was not ashamed to receive such funds from a state-owned company, because before his appointment as CEO of Ukrposhta, he earned $50,000 per month.

“Before Ukrposhta, I had $50,000 a month, and something tells me that after Ukrposhta, I will probably have more,” Smelyansky said.

He also complained that his salary was not enough to pay for his rented apartment.

What salaries do employees at Ukrposhta receive?

At Ukrposhta itself, the average salary for production staff (postmen, operators, sorters) is about 15-17 thousand hryvnia in 2025-2026 .

Postmen in villages often receive a base rate of 8,650 UAH (minimum wage), plus bonuses: 3 UAH per pension delivered, 1-20 UAH per parcel, and 50 kopecks per newspaper.

Branch managers in Kyiv earn a maximum of 29-30 thousand UAH, operators — 21 thousand UAH.

Company financial indicators

According to the NBU, as of 2025, Ukrposhta found itself in a very difficult financial situation due to losses (about UAH 2.5 billion for 2022-2024) and a sharp decline in capitalization.

The regulator then noted the risk of the company’s default and pointed to the need to recapitalize the company by at least UAH 826 million.

As [Komersant] , SAP Chairman Klymenko declared a record salary for December: almost UAH 765,000.
