Microsoft announced mass layoffs: what is known
15 May 05:22
Microsoft has announced that it will cut approximately 3% of its global workforce, or about 7,000 employees. The layoffs will affect employees at all levels, in different teams and regions. This was reported by NBC News, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
“We continue to implement the organizational changes necessary to best position the company to succeed in a dynamic market,” a Microsoft spokesperson explained in a comment to the media.
It is also planned to reduce the number of management levels.
At the end of June, Microsoft employed 228,000 people worldwide.
Despite the cuts, Microsoft has earned $70.1 billion in revenue and $25.8 billion in net profit over the past three months, exceeding expectations.
Previous layoffs
In 2023, Microsoft already downsized, laying off about 11,000 employees.
In January 2025, there were also layoffs that depended on employee performance.
One of the key goals of the new wave of layoffs is to optimize the management structure by reducing the number of management levels. Other tech giants have previously taken similar measures: in particular, Amazon announced layoffs after identifying unnecessary levels in its organization.
The situation in the tech labor market remains tense – last week, CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company, announced the layoff of 5% of its staff.
