The Ministry of Defense has launched a marketplace for weapons for the military: how DOT-Chain Defense works

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has announced the launch of DOT-Chain Defense, a digital arms procurement system that is already being called a “marketplace for weapons for the military,” "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the platform allows brigades to select the necessary drones in a few clicks without complicated approvals and paperwork.

How it works

The Defense Procurement Agency takes care of financial, legal, and logistical issues. This allowed us to reduce delivery time from months to weeks, and in some cases, even to 5 days.

The pilot phase, with a budget of ₴600 million, has shown the system’s effectiveness: since July 31, 12 brigades have received more than 11,800 UAVs worth ₴416 million.

Next steps

The Defense Ministry said it plans to expand the range of equipment on the platform and connect new units. The system aims to make procurement simple, fast, and as transparent as possible.

Context

Ukraine is actively investing in drones and robotic systems. Only in early September, the government allocated an additional ₴2 billion for the project “Army of Drones. Bonus” project, which now covers not only reconnaissance and attack, but also logistics operations.

The procurement reform at the Defense Ministry was a response to criticism of excessive bureaucracy and delivery delays. Previously, the military complained that the process of acquiring drones could take months, and sometimes supplies arrived late for several combat campaigns.
The new system actually introduces elements of decentralization in defense procurement, bringing decisions closer to the needs of units on the front line.
